member profile: Nappy

Joe Martin

"Nappy"  got hooked on guitar when he was a little boy: the night the Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan show. Within a week he had his first guitar and began taking lessons. He studied guitar for 9 years, learning to read music and sing. His first "professional" gig was with Gary U.S. Bonds, when he was hired for the touring band to support Gary’s "Dedication" album with the hit "This Little Girl Is Mine" (guess Bruce Springsteen and Miami Steve couldn’t take time off from the E Street Band to tour with Gary!). Nappy then played on Gary’s "Out Of Work" album. He has also played with Spencer Davis, and his vocals can be heard on "Shame On The Moon" on Bob Seeger’s "Distance" album. Nappy is married and is the proud father of Alexis.

Musical talent runs in Nappy’s family: his nephew John Kelly is the drummer in the heavy metal band Type O Negative.
